[Romans 7, Proverbs 9]

H – Romans 7:24-25, “[24] Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? [25] Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.”

E – The Only Good Thing In Me!

I am a sinner. The law revealed to me my sin (7:7), ignites my sinful desires (7:8), and leads me to death (7:11). As a sinner I can not keep the law. Even if I tried with everything in me I can’t keep it. Paul stated in Romans 7:15, “For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.” Because sin dwells in me I do not have the ability to be “good enough” (7:18-20). Therefore, I’m captive by sin and it leads me to be a wretched man (7:24). 

But God! Although the law is good because it revealed to me my sin nature there is only One that can free me from the curse of the law, Jesus. I’m dead in my sin (Romans 6:23), but Jesus paved a way, by faith, in and through His death-burial-resurrection that delivered me from the curse of the law, death. That makes only One good thing in me; JESUS!

Thanks be to God for His mercy and grace through Jesus Christ our Lord. Even though I sin and fall short of His Glory, He has paid my debt and and alone leads me in righteousness. 

A – Being Jesus is the only good thing in me, live the life of a Christ follower through Him. 

R – Lord God, Thank you for delivering me from this body of death. You are so good and the only good thing in me. Lord, help me to live my life through you and for your glory!
