[Genesis 1-2]
H – Genesis 1:1a, “In the beginning God…….”
E – He is in control!
If you are like me I really don’t get tired of starting a new year, a new reading plan, new goals, and new focus with new priorities. During a time of renewed focus there is usually a whole lot of I, me, we type of stuff going on in my head. How can I do this? What will happen to me if ……? What can we do better? Certainly those are not bad questions at the core and even needed. Especially when a lot of individuals are predicting 2023 to be a year of doom and gloom (don’t watch the news, it is depressing, ha). However, to get to the core of who I am, who I need to be, and where my focus should truly be, I need to take the blinders off of I, me, and we and put it somewhere else. The question is, where do I start?
Let’s start at the beginning.
Notice every initiative in the first two chapters of Genesis. My count was around the 40 mark for every time you read the words: God created, saw, said, separated, called, made, blessed, formed, took, commanded, and caused. Everything from the very beginning is simply God. The beginning was by His initiative and His authority.
It was by His authority that everything became so. Notice again every time that God acted, “it was so”. Wow! What a reality to His powerful Sovereignty. God ______________ and it was so. This LORD God is in control. These were not half-hazard commands of “I hope so’s”. These were intentional commands and they were ‘yes’. He alone had/has the power to speak to every detail of creation and it be done with an emphatically, ‘yes’.
When God took the initiative and it was so, it was perfect. Again, notice every time that God acted and it was so, the writer proclaimed “God saw that it was good,” or better translated, “He was gratified or glorified”. Isn’t that a great truth? When God acts, He is Glorified.
This God who is in control has all authority and power and dominion and it is all for His glory.
There is one other thought as I begin reading in Genesis on this new year. For every beginning there is an end (I’ve read Revelation – 😉 ). And, from beginning to end, this God is in control.
A – Allow God to be my beginning and my end. Submit to His authority, trust His sovereignty, cling to His power, and glorify Him with every good thing He has allowed into my life.
R – Lord God, you are good. From the very beginning until the very end, you are good. Lord, i proclaim you have all authority, and power, and dominion over my life. God, may you alone be glorified in and through my life.
In Jesus Name!
i say AMEN!
